New Kid in the Blog and Biotech World
Okay, so this is my first blog. I decided to create my own space in the Blogosphere because I spend too much time thinking about my work and my research that I forget about the outside world. I thought maybe blogging will get my mind away from thinking to myself and start sharing some ideas.
As stated in my profile, I'm a cancer research scientist. Actually, I've only started in the cancer research field for just a little over a year. I've been in the molecular biology/biotech research field for over eight years since I graduated from college and just came on board to the cancer specialty after I changed my position at the University of Minnesota in the beginning of 2006. I enjoy it very much and decided that I should go back to get a PhD degree and pursue a deeper understanding of the disease and the new advances in cancer research.
Although, cancer research has been my passion since undergraduate I just couldn't find the right opportunity until recently. The one thing that sort of gave me an extra push to get back into the area was probably the fact that my mother has been living with a liver cancer.
The goal of my research study is to apply my biotechnology knowledge to develop an interdisciplinary approach for cancer diagnosis and treatment. In addition to biotechnology background, I also have skills in bioinformatics. I utilize microarray technology and data mining for the discovery of the genetic signatures and molecular markers for the disease.
So now I guess I've found what I wanted to do in life and am actually pursuing it. And lucky you, I will be talking about it as much as my time permits.
Until next time...
