10 Killer Ways To Multiply Your Sales

1. When you make your first sale, follow-up with the customer. You could follow-up with a "thank you" email and include an advertisement for other products you sell. You could follow-up every few months.

2. You could upsell to your customers. When they're at your order page, tell them about a few extra related products you have for sale. They could just add it to their original order.

3. Tell your customers if they refer four customers to your web site, they will receive a full rebate of their purchase price. This will turn one sale into three sales.

4. When you sell a product, give your customers the option of joining an affiliate program so they can make commissions selling your product. This will multiply the sale you just made.

5. Sell the reprint/reproduction rights to your products. You could include an ad on or with the product for other products you sell. You could make sales for the reproduction rights and sales on the back end product.

6. You could cross promote your product with other businesses' products in a package deal. You can include an ad or flyer for other products you sell and have other businesses selling for you.

7. When you ship out or deliver your product, include a coupon for other related products you sell in the package. This will attract them to buy more products from you.

8. Send your customers a catalog of add-on products for the original product they purchased. This could be upgrades, special services, attachments, etc. If they enjoy your product they will buy the extra add-ons.

9. Sell gift certificates for your products. You'll make sales from the purchase of the gift certificate, when the recipient cashes it in. They could also buy other items from your web site.

10. Send your customers free products with their product package. The freebies should have your ad printed on them. It could be bumper stickers, ball caps, t-shirts etc. This will allow other people to see your ad and order.

Colored Contact Lenses

Have you ever thought about how much of what we saw in science fiction as kids is coming true? The wand that was used in Star Trek to determine injuries is very similar to ultra sounds and MRI’s that are used to diagnosis many kinds of internal injuries and diseases. Some of the communication systems and the speed in which information can be transported are beyond what some of the early science fiction writers could even imagine. Technology is taking us into the world beyond our imaginations.

When I was a kid I loved to watch Mission Impossible. I thought it was great how the agents could make themselves look like other people. Not surprisingly today I like to watch the extreme make over shows. The doctors can take a person that considers himself or herself ugly and transform them to look like whoever or how ever they want to. With the introduction of many of the cosmetics that are on the market it is not even necessary to go to the extreme of having surgery anymore. With colored contact lenses you can change your eye color with a pop of a lens. You can wash dye into your hair and within an hour you can go from a dark eyed dark haired person to a blue-eyed blonde. The ability to use the colored contact lenses to change eye color can help a person pass through security checks at airports and traffic stops with a false identification. There were times in the past if someone simply dyed their hair or work a wig of a different color the eyes would still is different. This may have not been a big deal unless the security person doing the checking was for any reason suspicious. I did not think the colored contact lenses would make a big difference until I saw my niece with them on.

My niece is a blonde with blue eyes. She has rather pale skin. She was very determined to surprise her husband by showing up on a trip that he was going on. The business trip was close to his birthday and was scheduled for a Wednesday and Thursday. His birthday was that Saturday. The trip was to New York City. She arranged with her husband’s boss for him to have Friday off. She works for an airline so it was not hard to get his ticket extended, but the only flight that would work for her to take was the same flight that he was on. She did not want him to see her on the plane so she had me drive her to the airport early. When I went to pick her up I could not believe it was her. She had on a dark wig; brown colored contact lenses and she had put on self-tanner. I would have walked right past her without a second glance. She ended up sitting up one row and across the aisle from her husband for the three hour flight and he never knew it was her.

College Research

One of the major steps you'll encounter in this life is higher education. Once you finish high school, you either want it or you don't. Far too many young people decide to take time off from academics and end up working in a fast food joint their entire life. Don't let this be your future. Do a little college research and find out what trips your trigger. There's a vast array of majors and programs to choose form. You can try your hand at international schooling, or keep it simple and acquire a degree here in the states. A University is worth the effort. College life is not only about homework, exams and stress.

I can't help but laugh at my teenage daughter. I had a quick chat with her this morning regarding college life. She basically started last winter at a community college. At this point she hates her classes, she despises the homework, and all the running around drives her nuts. Now, I may have to come to the conclusion that she's either lazy or unmotivated. I prefer to go with the latter. What she need is to do is some college research and find out which University she wants to transfer into. This can make all the difference. I vividly recall my two years at a community college. It was a bit drab and mundane. But, once I got into the University I'd applied to, things got better from there. Suddenly I was able to live on a real campus, get involved with University activities, and make plenty of diverse friends. It was a blast to say the least. I actually miss those times. However, it took some college research before I found the college I needed for the degree I wanted. Most people can tell you that different Universities offer different programs. While one may have the exact major you're looking for, another might not. I encountered this plenty when reviewing their websites.

Your ideal major is crucial. So when you doing college research, think about your major above all. Find out which Universities offer this particular program and which are highly recommended. You just might even find a University in-state that has exactly what you need. This will save you plenty on tuition fees. Get started with your higher education now.

College Ranking

We live in a culture where everyone is obsessed with having the best, the biggest, or the greatest. Knowing that something or someone is good is not enough – it has to be better than everyone everything or everyone else. Given this climate, it is no surprise that college ranking is so important to so many students. I remember the conversations that I would have about schools when I was graduating high school. Almost everyone wanted to know about the college university ranking of the school that they were going to. Whether they were looking at technical schools, Universities, online degree programs, or some other type of tertiary education, everyone wanted to compare their college rankings with other people in their group.

In my opinion, this way of looking at things is foolish. It is true that college ratings can give you some information about the school you are going to. If you're going to a big university, for example, you want a school that is known to have good programs in areas you might be interested in. Nonetheless, a good college ranking doesn't guarantee that you will be happy at the school you go to.

My sister, for example, went to a college with an excellent college ranking. The problem was that college rankings don't say anything about the social scene. The school was very monolithic socially. There were few students, and they were all from very rich, white, privileged backgrounds. It felt snobby and insular to her, and she didn't really enjoy herself while she was there. The school she ended up switching to had a lower college ranking, however, she was much happier there.

Whenever I think about college rankings, it reminds me of a course that I took in my senior year. I had finished the French program at my high school, and was taking a class at the community college to continue my French education. There was nothing spectacular about that community college, and the course I was taking was just a regular night course that met once a week for four hours. Nonetheless, I learned more in that class that I learned anywhere else before or since. I had a great teacher, and that was enough to inspire me. Although the college ranking of that junior college was nowhere near that of the universe that I went to, the professor I had there was every bit as good as any of the professors I had afterwards.

Coffee Houses

I didn't start out liking coffee houses. As a matter of fact, when I was a kid I couldn't even stand gourmet coffee. My parents loved to spend time in coffee and tea houses, passing hours having long conversations that were above my head with their intellectual friends between playing sets of acoustic folk music. I couldn't stand it. They dragged me along, but I was always bored to tears. I was expected to behave myself in the coffee house. My parents would usually have me bring a book along in case I got bored, but I couldn't read in that environment. It was always too loud, too smoky, and too cramped. Instead, I would usually go outside and wander around until they saw that I was missing, went searching for me, and scolded me.

Once I got to to college, however, coffee houses took on a different significance to me. My roommate roasted his own coffee beans, and soon I was hooked on the drink. Coffeehouses were not only a great place to study, but also a great place to meet girls. I was also getting more interested in doing my own writing, and sitting in a coffeehouse was a perfect way to get out of the house for a few hours to do some work.

When I first got to school, there were dozens of coffee houses in the area. They were all local ones too – and none of those Starbucks coffeehouses that you see on every street corner nowadays. I found a little hole in the wall that I loved to go to – smoky, crowded, and with that bohemian atmosphere that undergrads love. Within six months, however, it was closed.

It was happening all over the city. The coffee houses were closing, being driven out of business by the big chains. A new Starbucks would open up on the corner, complete with free parking, and people would flock to it. Of course, not every coffee house closed down. Bill's Place downtown, one of the oldest coffee shops in the district, was a big destination for the local music scene,. All the Starbucks coffee in the world could not change that. Even so, most of the other independent coffee houses were closing, one after the other. It seemed like a shame that, as soon as I discovered local culture, I had to see it decimated before my eyes. It definitely served as a wakeup call.

Closet Systems

I was in a home improvement store the other day, looking for some things I could not find. I guess I was shopping in the wrong place, or perhaps the store was just so large that I couldn’t find things. What I did find was something that I wish I had room for. I saw a display of closet systems, and I was stuck in my spot for quite a long time looking over what they have and wishing that I could have one for my own. I am tired of using dressers for everything, and there is just not enough room in my closet for anything else.

Closet systems are probably one of the best ideas in home organization that I can think of, at least for the bedroom. They are often a series of shelves and spaces where you can hang or store clothing. Some of them are large, and some are small. You will find some that have places for your shoes, hats, and your clothing accessories as well. What you can get will depend on how large your closet is and what you have to store. They range from inexpensive to very expensive.

The best part about these closet systems is that they come in pieces, so you can buy what you need, and you can skip what you don’t need or don’t have room for in your closet. You don’t even have to use them in your closet. They can work in open areas if you have things you need to store but don’t want to use regular shelves or plastic bins. The closet systems can be used for crafting items, sporting goods or tool storage in the garage, or anything else you can imagine.

Before you shop for closet storage systems, you should get out the measuring tape to see how much space you have so you have a better idea of what you should buy. You can even buy them online if you want, because you can get them according to space available and what type of material you want to have in your space. Just remember that many of them come in a box, and that means you are going to have to put your closet systems together. It shouldn’t be much harder than putting a bookshelf together though. Just about anyone can do it if they can follow instructions. Once you are done, you will be glad you did it. Everything will be visible, organized, and within easy reach.

Clay Pigeon Shooting

I have been going to an indoor shooting range for about two years. I started it because I had been attacked, and wanted to learn how to defend myself. Training in using guns seemed like the best way to do this. Soon, however, the shooting range stopped being a chore and began to be a pleasure. Rifle shooting is now one of my favorite hobbies. Unfortunately, until recently things were getting a little bit stale. That is when I discovered clay pigeon shooting.

If you have never gone shooting clay pigeons, you have really missed out on something. Even if you are an experienced marksman, clay pigeon shooting will really test your skill. Shooting clay pigeon targets is one of the hardest things that I have ever had to do. I've gotten to the point where I'm a pretty good shot. I can hit, at 20 yards, almost anything that I want to as long as it is standing still. Clay pigeon shooting, however, adds a whole new dimension to my marksmanship. It demands that I learn to think in three dimensions, be able to shoot straight up into the air, and anticipate the motion of my targets. If you ever want to be a really good marksman, you need to be able to learn how to shoot a moving target. Clay pigeon shooting will show you just that.

Your average shooting range, however, does not have the room for clay pigeon shooting. If you really want to get serious with the sport, you probably have to join a shooting club. There are other alternatives to give you the targets that simulate clay pigeon shooting, but they do not get the real feel of it. Part of what is so fun about clay pigeon shooting is how quickly and how high the disks fly out of the clay pigeon trap. In the more miniaturized versions of the sport, you do not have this factor as part of the experience.

Then again, you can do a homemade version of clay pigeon shooting as long as you are pretty careful and have a lot of room. I have actually done clay pigeon shooting in abandoned fields before, and it seems to be pretty safe. Of course, if you want to do this safely, you have to be way off in the country. Otherwise, it can be quite easy for you to accidentally hurt someone.

Children's Bedding

A lot of people think of that a bed is just a bed and a blanket is just a blanket, but having the proper childrens bedding is actually very important for their comfort and security. In the early years, of course, it is a matter of safety. Babies are pretty much helpless, so by picking out the wrong childrens bedding, you can actually be putting them in danger . Every year, there are thousands of tragic deaths when babies are smothered by unsafe cribs. Taking the right precautions and researching the children bedding could prevent almost all of them.

Of course, older kids bedding is also important. Letting your children pick out their own bedding can be a great way to reward them for good behavior and to allow them to express themselves. Children's quilts are usually based off of popular Kids TV shows, and are objects that are greatly treasured among the young. Most kids will show of their blankets and sheets to other children, and it is a great privilege to be one of the kids with the cool quilts.

Since I started selling childrens bedding years ago, I have seen a lot of styles come and go. There are a few things, however, that never go out of style. Spaceships, airplanes, cars and trucks,And other big transportation machines are always cool with the boys. With the girls, it varies a little bit more. Sometimes they like the same things as the boys, but other times they like princess quilts, sheets with hearts and flowers, or Power Puff girls blankets.

When you are letting your kid pick out childrens bedding, you shouldn't leave it all up to him. For example, if you don't intend to allow him to pick out a new quilt anytime soon, don't let them him pick out something that is probably a passing fad. Kids grow bored with TV shows very quickly, so any childrens bedding based off of a popular cartoon will probably get pretty old within a year. By contrast, getting your children bedding based on a more common childhood theme such as the cars and trucks blankets mentioned above can be a good investment. With a blanket like that, your son or daughter is likely to completely wear it out before getting bored of it! Still, sometimes it pays to let your kids make their own mistakes. There is, after all, no better way to teach them how to make decisions on their own.

Children in Need

When I reflect back on my childhood I realize that I lived a very protected and sheltered life. I grew up on a dairy farm in central Minnesota. I was the youngest of five children. We were all expected to help with the farm work as well as the yard work. My mother planted a huge garden so we helped weed, pick and can the produce. I went to elementary and high school is a small town seven miles from the farm. I had friends and was involved with school, community and church activities. I went to the university in the city twenty miles from the family farm. I stayed on campus so that I would have a chance to experience campus life. It was not until I did my field experience for my social work major at the beginning of my junior year that I realized how fortunate a childhood I had.

I declared a social work major at the end of my sophomore year. I had taken summer semester classes so I was able to do my field experience during the fall semester. My advisor asked me the population I thought I was least comfortable working with. I told him that I have spent time with elderly, mentally disabled and physically handicapped, but I was least comfortable around children. He challenged me to find a field experience in which I would be dealing with children in need. He wanted me to experience working in an area where I was challenging my comfort level as well as finding out if I had the skills necessary to work with children in need. I took his advice and interviewed to volunteer at a residential treatment facility for emotionally disturbed children with behavior problems. I was allowed to volunteer at the facility. I could not believe the backgrounds of the children I was working with. I knew that there was child abuse and children’s mental health issues, but I had no idea how many children in need there were in our area. It was a sobering experience for me. I realized for the first time in my life what a privileged childhood I had experienced.

After my experience I knew that I would be spending a great portion of my career working with children in need. It was challenging, but I found that my confidence that was given to me in my childhood was something that I wanted to share with children in need. I wanted to help them discover that adults can be trusted and differences can be accepted. I was very thankful that semester for the advice from my advisor as well as for the family that I grew up in.

Child Bedroom Furniture

Decorating a nursery is one of the most anticipated parts of becoming a new parent. Moms and dads work hard to come up with exactly the right theme for their child’s room. As much as the color of paint and wallpaper design sets the tone for the room, the child bedroom furniture is the finishing touch.

In the case of an infant there are certain pieces of furniture that are simply a must. A crib is essential and not a crib that has been passed down from generation to generation. Crib safety regulations have changed which means the child bedroom furniture the new parents used when they were young, isn’t going to work in today’s world.

Once the infant graduates into a big kid bed, parents will want to choose one that is both comfortable and functional. With this particular piece of child bedroom furniture size really does matter. A twin bed is ideal for a child and when used with a sleep guard, the child is less likely to roll out of bed onto the floor. As he or she grows, the guard can easily be removed.

A dresser to keep the little one’s clothes in is also needed. There are several different styles for parents to choose from and gender can actually be a determining factor. White child bedroom furniture, including dressers and bed frames are often seen in rooms that belong to little girls. Small boys are apt to have wood or painted blue child bedroom furniture.

As the youngster matures and begins school the design of their bedroom may grow with them. A desk is a piece of child bedroom furniture that not only adds to the décor of the room it also helps with homework. Children who have a quiet place to study often do very well in school. This piece of child bedroom furniture should be viewed as an important investment in the child’s educational future.

Something that most children seem to have is too many toys. Parents who have stepped on the sharp edge of a toy know how valuable a toy box is. This piece of child bedroom furniture is ideal for keeping the child’s room clear of clutter and also it gives them a little responsibility. If a child has a place to put their toys when they are done playing with them, their room is much more likely to stay neat and tidy.

Choosing things for a child’s room is always a fun task. As the youngster grows it’s important to include them in the decision making process. With well built child bedroom furniture, a small boy or a girl will love spending time in their own room.

Chewing Gum Removal

Chewing gum removal is a chore that is the stuff of nightmares. Being a former teacher and a mother of four gum-chewing boys, I can certainly tell you that there is no easy way to remove gum from carpets, furniture or just about any other surface that you face. This is especially true if the surface is porous.

You may be tempted to spend hours and hours looking for a home remedy chewing gum removal but I can tell you that there is no quick fix. The only way I have ever effectively gotten rid of this kind of sticky mess without some professional grade product to help me along.

And I’ve tried it all. My kids got a bunch of the sticky candy intertwined within the fabric of my rug. There was little I could do in this home chewing gum removal project short of cutting the stuff out and that wouldn’t be good for anyone. My options were pretty vast, too.

The first thing I tried was ice cubes. Sure, this worked for the surface stuff that really didn’t dig into the fabric of the rug. But when I got down to the nitty-gritty, I was at a loss. Nothing worked for the really tough sticky stuff caught up in the fibers of my beautiful rug.

I thought that I was going to have to get the scissors out. There was just no other way to handle this chewing gum removal task. I started to lament at my loss and began looking at throw rugs to cover the awful, sticky mess that has set up camp in my poor, poor rug. The whole thing was pretty depressing.

Good thing I kept the scissors at bay and decided to check out my options online. I came across a product that is specially designed for chewing gum removal. I almost wept at the sight of it. Actually, I did get a little teary. My tears were mixed with relief and a fear of disappointment.

Well, I most certainly wasn’t disappointed in the chewing gum removal product. My rug looks as good as new and you can’t tell that anything had even happened at all. Now I am on my way to my former school to share the good news with the administration. I’m sure that they will be pleased to discover that there is a commercial grade chewing gum removal product that can take the place of the traditional methods.

Cheap Shoes

There are times to buy expensive shoes, and there are times to buy cheap shoes. I know that many won’t buy anything that might be cheap, but there are many times when I do just that. There are some very good reasons to spend very little money on a pair of shoes, and in these cases, buying something expensive is a waste of money. Some shoes have to be well made and will have a high price tag on them, but there is no sense in every single pair of shoes in a closet to be of the expensive kind.

I buy cheap shoes when I know I am not going to wear them very often. Many times I will buy something that I love, but I know that I am not going to wear them only a few times. Why would I drop a ton of money on something that will not be worn very often? Usually, I wear such shoes five or six time before they are then thrown out. This happens because I don’t dress up very often, and most styles will go out of style within a year. Though I have some that are stylish no matter what, the trendy shoes die out fast. That is when I buy the cheap shoes. To do otherwise is a waste of my money.

I would not, however, recommend buying cheap shoes for your children if they are involved in sports. However, if you want a pair of shoes for special occasions, it does not hurt to get them at Payless as long as they are safe to wear. Children outgrow shoes rapidly, and I can’t imagine spending fifty dollars on a pair of shoes my daughter will wear three times before she outgrows them. That is a colossal waste of money. My rule is cheap shoes for special occasions, and expensive shoes when I know she is going to wear them quite often.

You do have to be careful with some cheap shoes though. You don’t want something that will break or hurt your child while they are wearing them. Make sure you inspect any cheap shoes you are considering to be sure they are going to be safe and snug on the feet. You don’t want to buy them sneakers that are going to fall apart within weeks, or that might not be secure while they are playing sports or riding bikes. They could get hurt that way.

Cheap Hotels in London

Planning out my vacation to England was one of the more stressful experiences I've had this year. You see, I'm used to having cheap discount vacations. I usually go to pretty inexpensive destinations such as Charleston, Memphis, or New Orleans. None of these are hard places to find cheap accommodations. Although there are luxury hotels in most large metropolitan cities, it doesn't take a lot of effort to find the cut rate ones. If you're willing to stay in fleabag motel room for a few nights, you can plan your trip very cheaply.

Finding cheap hotels in London is another matter entirely. It is barely overstating the case to say that there are no cheap London hotels. If you are willing to stay in a really bad part of the city, living in a dirty room with unwashed sheets, you might be able to find something inexpensive. If, however, you have any standards at all, you are probably going to be out of luck. I spent months looking for a cheap hotel in London, and I couldn't find anything. My wife had wanted to go to a London bed and breakfast, but it was becoming clear that that was out of the question. I knew that it would be a challenge to even find cheap hotels in London that we could afford!

There is one thing I forgot when I was first looking for cheap hotels in London: student hostels. London hostels are an extremely popular destination for young adults all over Europe. You see, because the public transportation is so good there and the countries are so close together, travel is an extremely popular pastime among the young in Europe. You don't have to be rich to do it either. London hostels can be well within the reach of almost any traveler. Nevertheless, there are a few things that you have to keep in mind.

Hostels may be cheaper than the best cheap hotels in London, but they do have some disadvantages. One of the biggest ones is rampant theft. In many hostels, you don't even have a separate room. You basically have a bunk in a shared boarding room with many other people. Some hostels are better than others, but none of them have a very good record when it comes to theft. As a matter of fact, they often recommend that you take your valuables with you or check them into a secure storage box. If you're willing to take the necessary precautions, however, this can be the best way to travel!

Cheap Apartments

For many young people nowadays, finding cheap apartments is every bit as important as finding a good job, and often much more difficult. Finding the right place for the right price can make you or break you. After all, if you're in your 20s, you probably want to be in the middle of it all. You ideally want to find a cheap apartment in San Francisco, New York, Portland, or some other hip urban center. Finding cheap rent apartments in good locations means that you can be at the center of it all, perfectly placed to find a good job, enjoy a beautiful city, and make meaningful connections that will last you the rest of your life.

When I was working in San Francisco, cheap apartments were crucial to keeping a good quality of life. I was working downtown, and I didn't want to have a long commute. Being able to find a cheap apartment in the center of the city meant that I could work longer hours, get home earlier, and save money on gas and transportation. It wasn't just a matter of wanting to live in the city where the action was. It really made a big difference in my career development.

When I first got there, however, I couldn't find any cheap apartments. At first, I thought of moving out of town. I was contemplating living in Daly City, even though I knew that it would be a pretty difficult commute. In the end, however, I decided to move into a multiroom house with roommates. This was a mistake to say the least. My roommates were all inconsiderate, irresponsible, and borderline nuts. I knew that, sooner or later, I would have to move out of that place even if I couldn't find cheap apartments.

I suppose that I was pretty lucky. I found a great apartment for rent just in the nick of time. The tenant was moving out early, and he was looking for a subletter. He was offering a substantial discount, and I would be able to stay there for the rest of his lease. Although I only had about eight months to stay in the place, I knew that it would be enough time to get on my feet. Sure enough, by the time that lease ran out, I was making more money. I was able to afford a more expensive apartment and stay downtown.

Charcoal Drawings

Since I was very young, I have always had an appreciation of charcoal drawings. I think that it started with an art class actually. We were studying techniques for depicting light and shadows, and so charcoal pencil drawings were the most natural way to do it. When I first used charcoal pencils, I thought they were more than a little bit awkward. I was used to writing with a good bit of pressure, but you couldn't do that with charcoal portraits. Charcoal drawing demanded a delicate touch. Rather than just constructing a line, you were drawing with the edge of the pencil. To get the proper shading techniques, you needed precise control over the angle and the amount of pressure that you used – no small task for a beginning artist.

Nonetheless, I stuck with charcoal drawing and pretty soon I was starting to get pretty good at it. Of course, charcoal drawing was not my passion in life immediately. I was deeply involved in ceramics, and I thought I would make my future as an art professional in that medium. As time went on, however, my ceramic works stagnated. My charcoal drawings, on the other hand, continued to improve. By the time I enrolled in college, I had established a small, part-time business making charcoal portraits from photographs. Before I even sent in my first application to art school, I had made hundreds of dollars off of charcoal drawings.

The problem was that my craft was outpacing my creativity. I could draw charcoal drawings with stunning realism and make it look easy, but I couldn't think of anything more to draw. I was having very few dreams – my traditional source of inspiration – and my life was rather bland. As a matter of fact, it seemed like I was drying up. I decided that I had to take a drastic measure. I bought all the charcoal pencils that I needed and locked myself up in my room for a solid week. I did not come out except to get Chinese takeout, and spent the rest of my time frantically composing charcoal sketches. By the end of the week, my floor was literally covered with charcoal drawings. I was exhausted, but I had done it. I had broken through whatever had been blocking my creativity. I can not tell you what a relief that was! Since that point, I have never had any shortage of inspiration.

Chalk Board

When I was growing up, we had a large chalk board in the living room. It wasn't only a place to write important family messages. It was the center of our family life. My parents were pretty clever with the way that they did things. They found a way to make everything into a game, and as a result we were much better behaved and had a lot more fun living. The chalk board was a great example of this. We would leave messages for each other, draw pictures, play games, and even do our homework on it. I thought chalk boards were the neatest, most versatile thing in the world when I was growing up. My least favorite part of the night was when I had to erase the chalk after doing my homework.

Of course, dry erase boards have largely replaced chalk boards nowadays. As a matter of fact, it can be hard to find a school with a wall chalk board. Dry erase markers have a lot of advantages over chalk. When I was in college, we would all use dry erase message boards, putting them on our dorm room doors so that we could leave each other drawings and messages. We could use several different colors, erase things easily with one go, get by without having to wash erasers, and most importantly not have to breathe in all of that chalk dust! Best of all, you could tie a marker to the door so that no one would steal it. With a chalk board, someone would always walk off with the chalk and you would have to break out another piece.

Even so, there is a part of me that misses the elegance of the chalk board. The great thing about drawing and writing with chalk is that everything is so straightforward and to the point. There is no part of the chalk that gets wasted, and it always works just like you expect it to. With a dry erase marker, you have to worry about the ink drying out. Sometimes the flow is good, and sometimes it isn't so good. You have to decide when to throw out a marker, and when you should try to save it for a little bit longer. It is also much more wasteful, as you end up throwing out the whole plastic marker just because the ink has run out. With a chalk board, however, the only thing you ever throw out is the small cardboard box that the chalk comes in.

Certified Public Accountant

It is amazing to me how time flies by. It seems like it was only yesterday when I was graduating from high school and starting college. Now I am in the stage of my life where my youngest child is starting college. My three children are quite different from each other. My oldest son was always very conservative in school. His teachers identified him as quiet and self assured. My daughter was always very popular. She was concerned about having every hair in place and would have a melt down if she thought one of her friends would have newer clothes than she did. Her teachers said that she needed to apply herself more to her studies and less to her social life. My youngest son excelled in every sport that he was able to take. He was captain of the football team, basketball team and cross country team. He set several school records in cross country events. His teachers stated that his grades were average, but his pleasant personality and sports achievements would most likely get his into any college that he wanted.

As any mother I worry about my children and how they will get through life. As I watched them age and mature I always knew that they would be successful because they lived the Christian values that my husband and I taught them. I have been surprised in the career paths that each of the children has set for themselves. My out going glamorous daughter has passed her test to be a certified public accountant. Math and accounting were always her strongest subjects in school, but I thought she would enter a profession that would be more people oriented and interactive, such as teaching. I am proud of her achievement of becoming a certified public accountant. I know that she will get a good job and will be financially secure; however I do worry that she will get bored. My husband laughs at me that I have a stereo typical view of the certified public accountant being a nerd with thick glasses and a pocket protector. His brother is a certified public accountant. He had to take his examine three times before he passed it and that was after several years of working in the field. The fact that our daughter passed her first time taking it says a great deal about her abilities.

We did have a family dinner to celebrate her achievement. We all met at a restaurant. My son’s each wore pocket protectors and thick reading glasses. They love to make fun of their sister. By the end of the meal they were very impressed by the amount of money she was going to be making in her new job as a certified public accountant.

Celebrity Cruise Lines

When I was a kid, I loved the ocean. Although I was raised in the Midwest, I somehow developed a fascination with the open sea. I would read every story about seagoing adventure I could find. I would study up on pirates, explorers, warships, and anything else ocean related. I loved the Vikings in particular, and was particularly a big fan of Erik the Red. Every time Columbus day would come around, I would give some sort of presentation in school about how the Vikings had discovered America way before Columbus.

When my parents took us on a vacation aboard celebrity Cruise lines, it was a dream come true. We went on a celebrity cruise line Alaska trip, something that they had trouble agreeing on. My father was a cold weather person, but my mother was a warm weather person. Fortunately, there was a celebrity Cruise lines ship The departed from Southern California and sailed all the way up the coast. All in all, it would take several weeks to make the journey – plenty of time to sit back and soak up some rays. I was ecstatic. I was sure that it would be the best time I ever had.

I wasn't disappointed. Although I was never a big fan of cruise ships before that trip, you can bet I was a big fan of them after! The cruise vacation was like nothing else I had ever done before. There was great food, music every night, a beautiful view, a game room, a pool – you name it and we had it. Going on celebrity Cruise lines was like staying in a resort floating on top of the open sea. It was everything a boy could want all combined into one amazing package!

That celebrity Cruise lines trip had unexpected consequences, consequences that my parents would one day regret. You see, it further cemented my love of the ocean. Both my folks wanted me to go into law, but after that trip I was interested in Celebrity Cruise line employment. Rather than going straight to college after high school, I decided to go aboard a ship and worked there for a couple years. Eventually, I came to realize that I didn't want to spend my whole life as a porter, but at first it was a lot of fun. Sometimes I dream of spending my life at sea, but my law career has really taken off in the last few years.

Causes Hair Loss

We all hate to contemplate the process of aging. In reality once we hit a certain age; we hate to think that we're constantly going to continue getting older. This is primarily due to the changes our bodies undergo. We typically get weaker, more prone to health problems, our vision weakens, our faces become mazes of lines and wrinkles, and often we lose our hair. Now, let's examine that last dilemma. This is probably the most difficult for men. Sadly it can start occurring at any time. Even as young as our high school years. But, what exactly causes hair loss and how can any of us prevent it? Fortunately more answers, treatments and solutions are becoming available.

Probably the number one cause of hair loss is genetics. Surely you've heard of male patter baldness. A whopping 66 percent of us face the wrath of this cosmetic affliction. We start to lose our dews simply because it's part of the aging process. Something called dihydrotestosterone excretes through the scalp and damages the hair follicles. Then once they fall out, the pore closes and no hair returns. YIKES! Obviously none of us want this happening to us. And this is why we seek out products that prevent such tragedies. If you haven't already seen them on the market, there are numerous shampoos and conditioners that help remedy this common problem that causes hair loss. Look for products with dihydrotestosterone blockers. Also known as DHT.

Just so you're aware, there are several other factors that cause hair loss in men and women. One of the major ones being stress. Again stress has proven to be one of our worst enemies. Hair loss is just another annoying way it can get the best of you. It basically boils down to your body being out-of-whack. This can affect the health of your dew and even turn it grey. I recommend a multivitamin to help you deal with stress. Furthermore, your diet is crucial. What you eat on a regular basis will always play a part in all aspects of your health. Be sure to adopt a healthy diet in order to keep your hair looking stellar. Lacking vitamins and minerals causes hair loss more than people generally know. So in the end, don't stress, use the right hair care products, and eat right to keep a healthy head of hair for many years to come.

Cause and Effect Essay

Cause and effect papers can be as easy or as difficult as you want them to be. At one point, everyone wonders how to write a cause and effect essay, but by the time you are done with high school you should be a master of this. After all, thinking about causality is one of the most important logical process that we have to go through on a day-to-day basis. Writing a cause and effect essay is not just busy work. Cause and effect essays teaches how to understand the media, how to think about problems in our own lives, and even how to vote.

Nonetheless, when you first come across a cause and effect essay, it can be completely baffling. I remember when I was in freshman writing class in high school and we had to write our first cause and effect essay. To say I was terrified would almost be an understatement. I consider myself a pretty good writer, but being a pretty good writer in middle school is much different than being a pretty good writer in high school. In high school, you find out that the tricks that you used in middle school will not help you anymore.

I am ashamed to admit it, but that cause and effect essay was the first and only time I tried to cheat in class. I actually went to a downloading papers site on the Internet. It offered several free paper downloads, so I thought I could look at them, use them as inspiration, and then write my cause and effect essay. I did not come to this conclusion lightly. You see, our high school teacher thought we were all morons. He would not help us at all, and I was getting panicked. The cause and effect essay was due any day, and my parents were not around to help me with it.

Nonetheless, looking at cause and effect essays online was a waste. It got me a poor grade, and it almost got me caught for cheating. If it weren't for the fact that the cause and effect essay was so poorly written, my English teacher probably would have suspected that it was downloaded. Downloading essays online may seem like a good idea, but take it from me, it is not. If you don't know how to write an essay, how are you going to understand how to pick out a good one?

Case Study Research

Throughout my career as a social worker I have worked with many interesting people. Some of the children that I have worked with have had to over come a tremendous amount of adversity in order to survive. I am always amazed at a couple of things. One, how cruel one human being can be to another and two, how resilient the human spirit is. Many of the stories can break your heart, but an equal number of them can give you faith in God and make your spirit soar.

Now that I have been in the field for several years I have decided to go back to school to get my doctorate. I am hoping that I can use my front line experience to help people in a therapeutic setting. One of the reasons that I have held back for so long from pursuing my degree is that I knew it would take time to complete the case study research that is required to obtain your PHD. I knew that I would not have the time to devote to this case study research when my children were little. I was not going to become one of those people whose children suffer while I am out saving someone else’s. It can become a challenge to have the energy and patience to deal with your own children’s issues when you spend the day dealing with children with behavior and mental health problems.

My employer has been gracious enough to allow me to complete some of my doctorate studies during my regular work time. As long as I obtained releases of information from the clients involved, I could use some of the cases that I was familiar with to complete my case study research. This turned out to be a wonderful thing for me because the research was easy. The interesting thing was that it because very healing for the two families that I did the case study research on. With each family I interviewed as many family members as I could find. I researched back into several generations to discover when child abuse and or mental health issues began. In both cases I found that the abuse went back as far back as I could go. I found one journal of the great great grandmother of one of the children I was working with who had been severely abused. The great great grandmother wrote about being hit with a switch and then locked into a closet for hours. Seeing the time lines of the pattern of abuse was added motivation for the young people that I was working with to put an end to the abuse and learn different ways of dealing with anger.

Car Security

When I first got a Viper car alarm, I thought it was pretty snazzy. I was about 18 years old then, and I had been saving and saving to buy my first sports car. Looking back, it seems like a stupid idea. At the time, however, it was a dream come true. I did everything I could to keep the car in good shape. I waxed it every weekend, I washed it practically every day, I drove slowly and only during the daytime, and of course I bought a cutting-edge car security system for it.

That car security, in the long term, turned out to be almost useless. Don't get me wrong – it worked fine. If you would so much as touch the car, the car alarm would go off. The problem was that no one paid any attention to it. People are so used to car alarms going off that they generally ignore them. I have even seen cops walk past cars with the alarms going off without giving them a second look. Basically, 19 out of 20 times, it is a false alarm anyway. Why bother.

That is why, despite the new fancy car security system, a thief was able to break into my car and steal it. Apparently, it took him at least 10 minutes. When they found the vehicle a few days later, it was completely trashed. I didn't have theft insurance, so that was that. It was a harsh lesson, but an important one. First of all, it taught me that sports cars are a stupid idea – particularly if you don't live in a very good neighborhood. More importantly, however, It showed me that low-tech car security devices are sometimes the best choice.

Ever since then, you see, I have used one of those clubs to lock up my car. It is not electronic, it doesn't trigger an alarm, and it doesn't involve flashing lights or blaring horns. It is, however, very effective. Basically, it takes a professional locksmith to beat that kind of car security – and it would take him quite a while. You can be confident that, even if someone breaks into your car, they won't be able to drive it off. Best of all, car thieves don't even try to steal a car if they see that you have a club. The best kind of auto security, after all, is the kind of makes thieves stay away.

Car Seat Organizer

Children add a whole new dynamic to a family. For a couple having their first baby it means having to rearrange almost everything including their mode of transportation. A two-door car that was once hot and stylish becomes frustrating and tedious when you are trying to put a baby in the back seat. A mini-van is a sign of the times and a signal that a family is on board. If you’ve got a baby in that mini-van you should also have a car seat organizer.

Those of us who are already parents know what it takes to get a baby from point A to point B. It takes much more than dressing them in appropriate clothing for the weather, strapping them in the car and heading off. It also involves packing enough diapers, bottles, wipes and clothing. With a car seat organizer much of the baby’s stuff is within easy reach for mom and dad.

These handy devices come in differing sizes and shapes depending on what you are using it for. In the case of an infant you want a car seat organizer that has a spot for a bottle, a toy and maybe some wet wipes in the case of an accident. For a toddler a car seat organizer should be large enough to hold a small juice box, some picture books and maybe a plastic container filled with a snack.

Adults will find them useful as well. I have one in my car that I keep many different things in. Loose change, pens and a pad of paper all sit in my car seat organizer. I also have a plastic bag in there in case I need to carry something or I want to clear the trash out of the car. A soda can will fit perfectly in the car seat organizer I have so I don’t have to worry about it falling over and spilling while I’m driving.

Some cars come with them when you first purchase the car. They may be an added option in certain vehicles so if you don’t happen to have one already in your car or truck it’s not hard to get one. They are readily available at many car supply stores as well as discount department stores. Measure the area where you want it to go so you can choose the one that fits the best.

They do come in different colors but it’s wise to purchase one in a dark color. Black or dark grey will usually match with the interior of almost any car and if you happen to spill a bit on the car seat organizer it’s not going to be as noticeable as it would be if you had a lighter color. Overall they are a great addition for any family vehicle. After all anything that helps a mom or a dad stay organized is perfect.

Caring for Kittens

There are so many important lessons for children to learn. There are the standard things that they are taught in school, reading, mathematics, history, writing and other topics that children need to know to achieve academically. There are other important lessons that they learn by being involved in sport activities as well as community organizations. Some of the lessons are planned, organized and clearly executed. Many other lessons are learned through the child observing others in their environment. These are the lessons that often have the largest impact, and they are not often controlled, or even thought through.

In working with children and families I have come to realize that what children see and hear in their home environment has the largest emotional impact on them. The reason for this is that the life lessons that go on around all of us are what formulate our emotional development. My children are quite well adjusted, stable young adults. I know that there are many things that helped form them; one of the things that they identify is their experience of caring for kittens when they were young. Like many children my children had to deal with the death of their grandparents. My parents were killed in a car accident when my children were nine and eleven. They had been very close to my parents. My parents had done some of the day care for the children when they were preschoolers and the children spent a great deal of time with them during their summer vacations. It was a very sad and difficult time when my parents were gone. When my parents died we went to their home to clean out the refrigerator, and to secure things. When we went to lock the garden shed we discovered kittens that were only a few days old. We checked several times throughout the day and the mother cat did not come back. My husband went to ask the neighbors about the kittens. They said that a cat had been struck by a car in front of their house that morning. We decided that we were going to have to teach the children about caring for kittens and to bring them to our house. This ended up being a great thing. The experience of caring for kittens occupied the children’s thoughts and time. It was also magical to watch new life grow and mature at a time of death. To begin with the children needed to use an eye dropper in caring for kittens because the small cats did not have their eyes open yet and were too weak and small to drink from a dish. As the kittens grew they began to entertain us with their tumbling and playing. We ended up keeping all three of the kittens. They were loyal family pets for over ten years. I know that caring for kittens helped our children become more compassionate.

Car Donation Tax Deduction

There are many social service agencies that are run nationwide as well as on a state and local level. Some of the services are for profit and others are non-profit organizations. The majority of them get government support to provide services in addition to fund raising events and fees for services. Most agencies limit their fees so that they are accessible to everyone that needs the services. The general public thinks of food, rent money or cash grants when they hear about social services, but there are many other programs that are available to help people. There are services related to physical as well as mental health care.

Many of the large non-profit organizations have enough connections to keep their organizations going. Most are governed by a board of directors made up of business people, physicians, and lawyers as well as government officials. This multi-disciplinary type board usually lends itself to creative ways of funding raising or meeting a particular need for clients. One program in our area has a car donation tax deduction program. It is reported that the account on the board came up with the idea. Many times low income people cannot afford a car. Without transportation in rural areas where there is no public transportation not having a vehicle means not being able to work. The car donation tax deduction was created to have a program in which a person with more money can gift a vehicle to someone that needs it and in turn take the value of the car as a tax right off. The car owners do not have to worry about the receiver of the car knowing who they are because all the titles are transferred to the organizations name and then are transferred to the person receiving the vehicle.

In order to qualify to receive one of the car donation tax deduction vehicles the recipient needs to show that they are able to afford the cost of running a vehicle including insurance, maintenance, and license. The vehicles that are donated need to be in reasonable shape. Some of the programs take the donated cars and have different technical colleges with mechanic programs tune them up before they are given to someone. This helps the school, the students and the recipient of the vehicle. The car donation tax deduction program is a great service because the donor gets a tax right off, the recipient gets a vehicle that is reliable and the mechanics get a vehicle to work on as part of their education. If you do not need the money that you get from a trade-in, seriously consider donating your car to a charitable organization.

Caravans for Sale

I have worked in the social service industry for several years. Through the years I have worked in large and small agencies and I have worked in the private as well as the public sector. Each agency has advantages and disadvantages. In larger agencies they tend to have the social workers specialize in one certain area whether that is adult services or child services. If the agency serves a large population then you specialize within those categories as well such as mental health, protection, developmental disabilities or physical disabilities. Regardless of what area you specialize in it is helpful to know how to access all services.

At this point in my career I am working for a private agency serving people that have been homeless. In order to qualify for the program you have to be staying in a shelter and one person in the family has to have a disability of some sort. Also we serve families where at least one person is under the age of eighteen. This is a challenging case management position because I need to know a wide variety of services. On any given day I can do everything from report child abuse to helping people find transportation. A few weeks ago one of the clients had saved enough money to be able to but a vehicle. He asked me to help him locate caravans for sale. He had under a thousand dollars to spend. The program is located in a rural area so we needed to find caravans for sale within a fifty mile radius of the program so that I would not have to spend a great deal of case management time driving him all over looking at different vans.

We entered the criteria that he was looking for. He wanted a caravan because he has owned them in the past and he knows they have reliable engines. He is a tall man with a bad back so the van is an easy vehicle for him to get in and out of. We found three caravans for sale that were within twenty miles of the program. Two were for sale by private owners and one was at a used car dealer. We made arrangements to see the three caravans for sale and he selected the one with the lowest miles. He was impressed with the way we had been able to use the internet to access the vehicles. He was also glad that I knew what questions to ask regarding transferring of titles and other things. I never know what skills or knowledge I am going to need when I go to work in the morning. At times this can be frustrating, but it keeps the job from being dull.

Car Accidents

Remember back in the day when you went to take that routine driver's education? I have to say, I don't think anyone really enjoys this. You do some reading, note taking, slow driving and watch the classic video tapes loaded with nasty car accidents. Good times! Now, the point of all this is not only to teach you proper driving skills, but also to make sure you know how to drive safely. This part is crucial. Especially for teenagers just receiving their licenses. I suppose they need as much scaring as instructors can muster.

We tend to get in a rut. Most people get up in the morning, hop in their car and drive to school or work. It's a routine we know by heart and it doesn't faze us one bit. After all, what's there to worry about? We're just going through the motions like we always do. Nothing bad generally happens. So why would today be any different? However, what we forget is that car accidents can occur at any time. It could be you, or it could be some poor old lady 8 cars ahead of you. This means that you not only have to drive safely, but you also have to watch how others around you are driving. That car three vehicles ahead of you could lose control today and smash into a semi. This in turn could affect you almost instantly. After all, you are on the same road, highway, or interstate. Yes sir, when you're behind that wheel, you have to be on full alert at all times. Most car accidents occur because people are not. You wouldn't believe how often people crash their cars because of tiny things like dropping a cigarette or changing the radio station.

Driving is a privilege; not a right! We've all heard this spiel before, and as much as we hate to hear it, it's the truth. Some folks are not fit to drive. Once you pull out onto that highway, you have a lot of responsibility in your hands. Not everyone takes this seriously enough. So the next time you're in a hurry and decide to speed around everyone, I suggest you remember those hideous car accidents they showed you back in driver's education. Maybe speeding is not such a great plan after all.

Canada Holidays

Canada is such a vast country to visit; it's hard to know where to begin. Most Canada holidays will need to be concentrated on a certain area. It's a land of contrast with mountains, prairies, cities and the Great Lakes. The culture is derived from Britain and France and French is spoken as a first language in some quarters. It really is the nation of wide, open spaces.

Ottawa is the country's capital and the House of Commons and the Senate is situated at Parliament Hill, where visitors can go on guided tours. The Museum of Civilization contains exhibits on the history of the country and there is a children's museum within the main complex. Children will love the Science and Technology Museum too, which includes some very big train locomotives. Toronto is the largest city in the country and has many attractions. The Art Gallery of Ontario is the largest gallery in Canada and exhibits the largest collection of Henry Moore's works in the world. The Ontario Science Center is popular with families on Canada holidays and has several interactive displays.

Vancouver is said to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world and is not to be missed by those on Canada holidays. For a terrific view of the city, there is a skyride to a viewing area up on Grouse Mountain. The Vancouver Aquarium has an international reputation for marine life research and conservation. This is a good area for winter sports enthusiasts and Whistler Mountain is reputed to be one of the best ski resorts for skiers and snowboarders in the world.

Canada is also famous for the Great Lakes, which traverse both Canada and the United States. It is an area of great beauty, used for recreation and commercial interests. Several National Parks occupy islands on the lakes. The five lakes are Lakes Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie and Ontario. Lake Superior is the largest freshwater lake in the world and Lake Erie is very popular with sport fishing enthusiasts. Lake Michigan is the one lake that lies completely within the United States and is known for its beautiful beaches.

Nova Scotia, on the East Coast, contains one of the world's last, true wilderness areas. The majority of the terrain is lakes and woodland. The Cape Breton Highlands National Park is particularly scenic and is home to several wildlife species, including deer. The capital, Halifax, is a pretty town and a popular destination on Canada holidays for people who enjoy strolling around the harbor and the historic streets.

Camping Supplies

It's great to get away for the weekend into the countryside under canvas. There is nothing to beat breathing fresh air and eating outdoors, surrounded by beautiful scenery. Of course, having the right camping supplies and equipment makes the experience all the more enjoyable.

The basics are the most important to get right. Tents vary in price and size, from the simple one-man variety to large family tents. It's important to choose one that suits the terrain and climate of the destination. Some tents are only designed for summer weather and any winter camping will require a 4-season tent. Most people like to have some kind of air mattress to sleep on. It cushions against the ground and offers insulation too. These come in single, double and king size with pillows and pumps that can be charged up from a car battery.

A good sleeping bag will ensure a sound night's sleep. Again, there is a choice of materials aimed at different weather conditions. Children can have their own junior size versions. A lantern or flashlight with spare batteries is a good item to put on the camping supplies list. Sheltered dining compartments give extra space and make camping more comfortable. Plastic table and chair sets are easy to keep clean and will last for years. There are portable stoves, Dutch ovens and barbecues, kettles and sets of durable pans and dishes. Food, wine and beer can be kept cool in mini refrigerators or cool boxes.

For those campers who want to take a break from cooking, camping supplies could include pre-prepared meals that just need added water. There is a good range that includes curries, chilies, meatballs and pasta and some delicious puddings Screens will give protection from interested insects and windbreaks will give shelter from the elements. Water carriers are the most efficient way of transporting water from the campsite's water supply.

Laundry is another consideration when living outdoors. Mini washing machines and dryers will keep the family in clothes and camping supplies should also include a clothes line or airer that can be attached to the tent. Don't forget the pegs. Campers may want the use of a heater on chilly nights. There are lots to choose from and they have safety features to ensure that they don't overheat and the thermostat cuts out if knocked over. Toilet facilities are the more mundane aspects of camping supplies but a necessary concern. There is a wide range of portable and chemical toilets on the market.

Camping in Alaska

Alaska is one of the most beautiful places in the world, offering a true wilderness. There are several protected areas in order to preserve the landscape, animals and flora. Tourism is increasing, as people want to see the mountains, glaciers and lakes and breathe in the clean air. RV touring and camping in Alaska is an ideal way of seeing the country close up. There are companies that organize guided tours, driving visitors between favorite destinations and supplying all the necessary equipment.

In addition to marveling at the scenery, many tourists like to take advantage of the adventure and sports opportunities here. For the really adventurous, there is dog sledding and cross country skiing in the winter. Summertime is the season for canoeing or sea kayaking. Photographers also love this region and may be lucky enough to snap a whale or seal.

One of the most visited areas is the Kenai Peninsula, which includes the glacier covered Kenai Mountains and beautiful lakes. This is usually on the itinerary for camping in Alaska. Fishermen love it too as the Kenai River is famous for its salmon stock. Several towns are also situated here.

Another popular spot is the Denali National Park, an important area for flora and wildlife such as beavers, caribou, grizzly bears, black bears, tundra swan, golden eagles, hares and wolverines. Many mountaineers and backpackers come here and enjoy a variety of terrain, including glaciers, tundra, rock and forest. Snowmobiling is allowed but restricted to certain areas. The park contains Mount Mckinley, the highest peak in North America. Standing at 6,194 meters, it is the perfect backdrop to camping in Alaska.

The period from March until the end of October is when the public is allowed access on to the Matanuska Glacier, a magnificent valley glacier containing ice falls. It is the largest glacier accessed by car in the state and the climate is unusually sunny.

The Wrangell St. Elias National Park is part of a Unesco World Heritage Site and is the largest area of National Park in the USA, covering an impressive 13 million acres. This wilderness attracts backpackers and hikers wanting to experience camping in Alaska on a big scale. The park can be accessed by car and there are charter flights too. The glaciers and ice fields are home to caribou and grizzly bears. A ferry trip brings visitors to Prince William Sound on the south coast. This area contains small islands and fjords and the Chugach National Forest, a rain forest with beautiful lakes.

Camping Holidays

One of the biggest sources of unhappiness in our society is that people think that you can't live well without having a lot of money. Because of this, a lot of folks work long hours so that they can spend their money on extravagant vacations. They will find ways to even make camping holidays expensive, taking tours to exotic locations instead of enjoying the camping sites around them. The truth is that with a little basic outdoors knowledge, you can go to some beautiful campsites no matter where you live. You can enjoy nature, see some spectacular views, and feel good about the fact that you're saving money while doing it.

Of course, it is easy for me to say this. I grew up taking camping holidays. My parents never went on those expensive camping holiday trips – the ones guided by tour guides in foreign countries. They knew enough about the woods that they could get around pretty much anywhere they wanted to go. We even took camping holidays to exotic destinations like Australia and New Zealand. Basically, the cost was low no matter where we went. All we had to do was pay for transportation, and the rest would practically be free.

When you are new to outdoor activities, of course, you do have to invest a little bit of money. Your first camping holiday will be somewhat pricey. It is important to have good outdoor gear, especially if you're going camping deep in the wilderness. If you go to REI, or some similar professional outdoor camping gear company, you should be willing to spend a few hundred dollars to equip yourself at firs. Fortunately, the clothing and gear that you buy for your camping holidays is durable. Unless you lose or put on a lot of weight, you should be able to still use the same gear for years!

Once you buy your equipment, you have to figure out what camps site you want to go to. I have always thought that it is good to start off slowly. If you make your first camping holiday too ambitious, something is bound to go wrong. Instead, you should go to a campsite with a short walk – say 2 or 3 miles at the most. There are still plenty of camping holidays where you can find some isolation with a 2 or 3 mile hike, but if you do need to get back to civilization, it is just around the corner.

Camping Grills

There are many great camping grills on the market, and before you choose, you should think about a few things. You don’t want to spend a lot of money on something that you will only use once a year when you are going camping, but at the same time, you don’t want to buy something that is not reliable so that you end up with no way to cook your food. In some cases, you may not even need a grill at all, but you do have to take a few things with you.

The more expensive camping grills are great if you do a lot of camping and you think you may even use it at home once in a while. Some are gas, and they are made to be portable for those who may take a long hike to get where they are going to camp. Some are a bit larger, but nothing like the ones you would by for your home. Instead, they are small enough to carry a short distance, but will sit nicely on the top of a picnic table and won’t blow away with a strong breeze.

Some like to get charcoal camping grills when they go, and that is a great idea if you don’t mind the wait for them to heat up, and you don’t think you will use it very often. They make a special size just for camping, and they are often small enough to be easily transported in the back of a truck or car. They are a bit messy, but they are the best value when you don’t want to spend a lot on something that you won’t be using again any time soon, or may even want to toss once your trip is over.

Sometimes you can find a great way to cook with wood, and you won’t need to have camping grills with you. Some have fire pits that allow you to have a safe fire, and you can put the grill screen over the fire and cook. You can find great ones that are meant for outdoor cooking over open flame. You don’t want to get something not made for that purpose because they might have strange chemicals on them that will burn off, or they may break too easily. No matter what type of camping grills you choose, make sure you don’t forget the cooking utensils, and getting sturdy ones for camping, in this case, is also a great idea.

Buy a New Car

Parenting is a difficult and demanding job. It is also a job that you cannot retire from. Even when your children are grown, living on their own and making an income, you still feel a sense of responsibility and a need to give advice. We have found that our children are once again interested in our input. For a few years anything that we said held little or no value to our children but now that they have completed college and are taking on more responsibility for themselves they are eager for advice.

Our oldest son is quite independent. He has always been a very hard worker and is the most frugal of our children. He liked to save money and is a great comparison shopper. He has never been one that has felt that it is important to have brand name clothing or shoes. He has a very practical side to him. Because of this I was surprised when he told me that he wanted to buy a new car. He has always been the one to talk about how quickly new cars depreciate and how you never make up for that depreciation. When I brought this up to him he said that he did not care. He is making a good income and he has scrimped and save his entire life, so he wants to buy a new car as a treat for the hard work he has done. He said that he knows that when he decides to get married and to start a family he may not be able to afford to buy a new car so he wants to do it now.

I told my husband about the conversation I has with our son. My husband was upset that our son would go into debt for a new car. He thought there were other ways he could spend his money. I told my husband that at first I felt the same way, but then I remember the first and only new car that I purchased. It was fun to know that I was driving a car that no one else had driven. Once we were married and started our family we could not afford a new car, we always bought program cars to get a better value and additional equipment. After listening to me my husband agreed that everyone should own at least one new vehicle in their life time.

A couple of weeks past before our son drove up to our home in his new vehicle. He chose to buy a new car that is a hybrid. He is getting great gas mileage and the car has a nice sporty feel and look to it. He said that the reports are favorable for the car to hold its re-sale value, and there are enough of the hybrids on the road so most of the bugs have been worked through. It is neat to see how proud he is on his ability to buy a new car and save money at the fuel pumps.

Business School Admission

Have you ever stopped to think about the twists and turns your life makes? I have been reflecting more on this lately, I think it is because I am getting close to a milestone birthday and my youngest is going to college. When I was in college I had such grand plans to make huge differences in our social service system in my career as a social worker. After twenty five years I fear I have become part of the system and now I am counting the years and months to retirement.

My oldest son is following in his father’s footsteps and has joined the military. My youngest son wants to get a degree in business. Most of the past year he has been preparing for business school admission. Neither my husband nor I have any background in business so we have not been able to help him. My brother-in-law has been very successful in the insurance business and so he has offered to help our son with the business school admission. This is quite a competitive area and we are finding that it is one of those cases that who you know can have a great impact on getting in.

There are several colleges and universities that are within one hundred miles from our home. Two of them are well known for their school of business. Our son feels it is very important in such a competitive field to have his degree from one of the top ranked schools. He was given this information from his guidance counselor and my brother-in-law agrees. The business school admission is a complicated process that I do not completely understand. My son will not be in the business school until he completes his general education classes. The grades he gets in his general education classes along with recommendations from professors will help him get into the business school. A priority is given to those students that receive their general education at the same university. So even though the cost of tuition for the general education classes is greater at this school than the university closest to us, he has decided that he needs to go there. I have heard many stories about credits not transferring from one university to another, so I am in agreement that he should obtain his entire education from one school. My husband and I are just going to have to put off our retirement for a couple more years to help him pay for the cost of his education. Maybe if he is successful enough he will support us in our retirement.

Bullying Articles

Although I know not everyone who reads this article will agree with me, I think that staying abreast of current events is one of the most important things that a child can learn in school. Current events articles teach a child to be an involved citizen in his or her community. This is a lifelong skill – one almost as important as reading, writing, or arithmetic. When I teach kids current events in my classroom, however, I try to make sure that they are events that seem relevant to the students. So when several of my students brought in bullying articles last time we had current events day, I decided to Make a unit out of it.

You see, I thought there was no better way to demonstrate the importance of current events than through bullying articles for kids. Although kids bullying is supposed to be a rare occurrence in our school, in reality it does happen – and more often than one would like to admit. There has been no good study done on it, and every bullying article that I have read has said something different, but all of them agree that the problem is pervasive. In addition to more traditional forms of bullying – such as passing nasty notes, attacking other students, or calling names, cyber bullying is a new and troubling trend. Because there are so many kids who spend a lot of time on the cell phone, Instant Messenger, or e-mail, this problem has grown a lot in recent years. According to several bullying articles, kids are no longer safe even when they are at home. Bullies can still get at them.

I hoped that, through sharing bullying articles and discussing them in class, we could unite the kids against bullying. Bullies, although they can be brutal, are also generally cowardly. According to bullying articles, if enough kids stand up to a bully he will usually be forced to stop. Bullies are skilled manipulators, able to tell when and where they can get away with their abuse. Letting the kids trade bullying stories allowed them to each know that they aren't alone – that everyone suffers from bullies now and then. This is the point of current events for kids – to show them that keeping in touch with the events in the world around them is in their interest. Through bullying articles, not only was I able to help them to educate themselves, but I may have inspired a lifelong interest in learning.

Buffalo Sabers Jersey

I have seen the Wiggles twice in the city of Buffalo. I don’t live there, but I do live two hours away. For me, that is pretty close. I live in the middle of an area that has large cities all around, and I can drive in any direction to see a major concert event. Buffalo is one of the closets, with Rochester being about a half an hour closer. So when I want to take my daughter to see the Wiggles Buffalo is one of the places we go. Both times I have been there with her for the Wiggles concert we have seen one of the cast members wearing a Buffalo Sabers Jersey. The funny thing was, I didn’t recognize it because it changed in the matter of two years.

The first Buffalo Sabers jersey I saw was nice enough. I don’t know if someone in the audience gave it to the Wiggles or if they just put it on in tribute to where they were, but it was something that they did at the end of the show. Captain Feathersword come out with it on, and the crowd, of course, went nuts. I thought it was funny that they didn’t mention the Buffalo Bills, and that was probably because the Bills were not doing so hot that year. The Buffalo Sabers jersey was a big hit though, and I think people in any city like to see that when they go to a show.

I went again to see the Wiggles in Buffalo this past November and Captain Feathersword again came out wearing a Buffalo Sabers jersey. I had to do a double take though, as I didn’t recognize it. I admit I’m not a huge hockey fan, but I do remember what the Buffalo Sabers jersey looked like from the first time I had gone two years ago. It seemed to be bolder, and it was so different I didn’t know what it was. I wondered if there was some other Buffalo team that I was not aware of.

From the roar of the crowd though, I am guessing most of those in that city knew that is was a Buffalo Sabers jersey. I think it’s great that a city is so much behind their hockey team, because hockey has seen better days in terms of popularity. The strikes are not doing the league any good, and many people have stopped watching because of it. I loved hockey when I lived in Pittsburgh, but stopped watching because of the strikes. It’s good to know some are still watching, and that Buffalo is behind its team.

BSN Program

At the present time, there is a shortage of competent licensed nurses in this country. A great part of the nursing workforce is or will be retiring in the near future, leaving a vast whole in the country’s health care delivery system. Nursing education programs are popping up all over the place in an attempt to fill the gap, but there is concern that the quality of nurses being dispensed into the workforce is substandard. Reputable nursing schools are accredited by the National League of Nursing (NLN) and must meet rigid educational requirements. All graduates are required to sit for licensure shortly after completion of the BSN (bachelor of science in nursing) program, and are allowed to work as a graduate nurse in the interim at certain facilities. If the applicant does not successfully pass the licensure exam, the graduate nurse permit is revoked and the graduate cannot reapply for a specific period of time afterward.

Choosing the right BSN program can be difficult and confusing because there are different types. There are registered nurses (RNs) educated through diploma or associate degree programs that are two years or less, or there are bachelor of science degree in nursing (BSN) programs, which traditionally requires a minimum of four years to complete. Comparatively speaking, a nurse who graduates from a BSN program is more desirable to many employers, because a baccalaureate education in nursing is based upon a study of the humanities/arts and sciences in conjunction with clinical nursing courses, and provides a foundation for continuing personal, professional, and educational development. Graduates develop competence and critical thinking skills in addition to general nursing skills, and are able to function in a variety of healthcare settings. Also, a BSN degree is considered the minimum educational requirement for many positions.

There are different ways to reach this level, such as a traditional BSN program where the student fulfills arts and sciences general education credits the first and second years followed by nursing courses the last two years. This program prepares students to sit for a state registered nurse licensure exam after graduation. An RN to BSN program is designed for registered nurses who want to earn their BSN degree, and get credit for nursing skills already learned through school or work experience. There are also second degree BSN and accelerated BSN programs for non-nurses who have a bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing field. Credit is given for completed liberal arts requirements and focus is placed on nursing course work. These two programs have more stringent schedules than a BSN or RN to BSN program, and are not as flexible because of the condensed structure. All of these nursing programs will get you what you want, a BSN degree, which can open up a whole new world for you.

Brothers Sewing Machine

When I was growing up things were much different than they are now. We lived in a very small down and we were allowed to play for most of the day away from home. You did not hear about child abductions or non custodial parents snatching their children. In the summer months the only organized activity that I took part in was 4-H club. It was a family tradition to take part in 4-H and I am really glad that I had the opportunity. We did a great deal for the community as well as learned many skills. I took an interest in cooking as well as sewing because of my membership in 4-H.

When I was in high school I took home-economic classes. I was able to take the more advanced classes because I already knew how to cook and sew. The great part of sewing in home-economics class was using a Brothers sewing machine. My mom had a nice machine but it did not have all the attachments and options that the Brothers sewing machine had. I was fascinated by the automatic button holes as well as the variety of stitches that could be done. There were even special needles that allowed you to top stitch with two different colors of thread.

After I was married I bought a second hand sewing machine to be able to repair rips and tears. I did not do a great deal of sewing; however I was interested in getting into quilting. My sister-in-law is a quilter and she was making some beautiful things. My husband came home from work one day and said that he had heard that the school in the small town where he works had over ordered Brothers sewing machines. They were selling the over stocks for the cost that the school paid. This was significantly less than the retail on the machine. I asked him to pick one up for me. I sold my old machine to my sister.

My sister-in-law spent a day showing me how to use the many functions that have been added to the machine since I was in high school. Now there are even more stitches and features. I have started my quilting lessons by buying the material to make a quilted table runner. My sister-in-law that it was better to start with a project that would go faster so I would have a finished product in a shorter period of time than it takes to make a quilt for a bed. So far the project is going well and I love my new Brothers sewing machine.

Braces for Adults

Our smiles can be a real pain in the behind. I've always found it bizarre how many people are born with crooked, twisted, impacted, and lopsided teeth. What is going on here? Every other aspect of our bodies seems to fall nicely into place. At least for most people. What's up with the choppers? So many people end up needing braces. Now, I am certainly thankful that I wasn't one of them. However, both of my daughters require braces on their teeth. At least if they want them to look straight by the time they're in high school. So, what happens with all those individuals who aren't able to get braces as a child? Maybe they're parents simply can't afford it. I know; they acquire braces for adults! Hey, it's not uncommon these days.

There's no doubt you encounter braces for adults off and on. I see a lady daily at a local coffee shop that has braces. My guess is she's around 40 years old. Naturally this would be a bit more awkward getting braces at that age, but it's never too late to do so. If you're a 45 year old mom and never had the opportunity to acquire braces, but now you can afford them, go ahead and check into braces for adults. It's not just about the metal tracks and head-gear any more. Now you can enjoy a set of clear braces for adults. This will make the fact that you have braces much less obvious. People won't stop to stare at your metal grin. They probably won't even spot them. After about two years, those braces for adults will be off and you'll be smiling pretty.

Ever heard of Invisiline? This is all the rage now! Adults and teenagers alike are taking full advantage of these new-age braces. They basically resemble a clear, compact mouth guard that slides over the teeth. Once they're in, it's truly hard to spot them. Of course they come out when you eat or brush, but otherwise they stay on like braces. This is a pretty nifty idea considering that they're so subtle and convenient. What else can you ask for? If you're curious about Invisiline, you should consult your dentist. He/she can probably tell you if you're a likely candidate. You may have to acquire braces for adults, but no one said you couldn't do it in style.
