Colored Contact Lenses

Have you ever thought about how much of what we saw in science fiction as kids is coming true? The wand that was used in Star Trek to determine injuries is very similar to ultra sounds and MRI’s that are used to diagnosis many kinds of internal injuries and diseases. Some of the communication systems and the speed in which information can be transported are beyond what some of the early science fiction writers could even imagine. Technology is taking us into the world beyond our imaginations.

When I was a kid I loved to watch Mission Impossible. I thought it was great how the agents could make themselves look like other people. Not surprisingly today I like to watch the extreme make over shows. The doctors can take a person that considers himself or herself ugly and transform them to look like whoever or how ever they want to. With the introduction of many of the cosmetics that are on the market it is not even necessary to go to the extreme of having surgery anymore. With colored contact lenses you can change your eye color with a pop of a lens. You can wash dye into your hair and within an hour you can go from a dark eyed dark haired person to a blue-eyed blonde. The ability to use the colored contact lenses to change eye color can help a person pass through security checks at airports and traffic stops with a false identification. There were times in the past if someone simply dyed their hair or work a wig of a different color the eyes would still is different. This may have not been a big deal unless the security person doing the checking was for any reason suspicious. I did not think the colored contact lenses would make a big difference until I saw my niece with them on.

My niece is a blonde with blue eyes. She has rather pale skin. She was very determined to surprise her husband by showing up on a trip that he was going on. The business trip was close to his birthday and was scheduled for a Wednesday and Thursday. His birthday was that Saturday. The trip was to New York City. She arranged with her husband’s boss for him to have Friday off. She works for an airline so it was not hard to get his ticket extended, but the only flight that would work for her to take was the same flight that he was on. She did not want him to see her on the plane so she had me drive her to the airport early. When I went to pick her up I could not believe it was her. She had on a dark wig; brown colored contact lenses and she had put on self-tanner. I would have walked right past her without a second glance. She ended up sitting up one row and across the aisle from her husband for the three hour flight and he never knew it was her.
